One of Most Visible Company in the World


Business is an organization in which basic resources (inputs) such as materials and labor, are assembled and processed to provide goods or services (outputs) to customers. Business come in all size, from a local coffee house to a United Tractor which sells several billion worth of trucks and tractor each year. You can probably list some examples of companies like Indofood, Antam with which you have recently done business. Your examples might be large companies, such as The Coca Cola Company, Dell Inc. or Amazon.com. In this article, I will tell you about a well-known company which help our daily problems with a million of answers. It is Google.

One such successful company is GOOGLE, one of the most visible companies on the internet. Many of us cannot visit the web without first stopping at Google to get a search listing. As one writer said “Google is the closest thing the web has to an ultimate answer machine.” And yet , Google is a free tool - no one asks for your credit card when you use any of Google’s search tools. So, do you think Google has been a successful company? Does it make money? How would you know? The information tell us that Google is a very successful company that make a lot of money, but not from you and me. Google makes its money from advertisers.

Google Inc. is an American public corporation, earning revenue from advertising related to its Internet search, e-mail, online mapping, office productivity, social networking, and video sharing services as well as selling advertising-free versions of the same technologies. Google has also developed an open source web browser and a mobile operating system. The Google headquarters, the Googleplex, is located in Mountain View, California. As of March 31, 2009, the company has 19,786 full-time employees. The company is running thousands of servers worldwide, which process millions of search requests each day and about 1 petabyte of user-generated data every hour.

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University and the company was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4th , 1998. The initial public offering took place on August 19, 2004, raising $1.67 billion, implying a value for the entire corporation of $23 billion. Google has continued its growth through a series of new product developments, acquisitions, and partnerships. Environmentalism, philanthropy and positive employee relations have been important tenets during the growth of Google. The company has been identified multiple times as Fortune Magazine's #1 Best Place to Work, and as the most powerful brand in the world. Alexa ranks Google as the most visited website on the Internet.

Google's mission is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful". The unofficial company slogan, coined by former employee and Gmail's first engineer. Paul Buchheit, is "Don't be evil". Criticism of Google includes concerns regarding the privacy of personal information, copyright, and censorship.
